Name | Australian Colonies at 1810 |
---|---|
Description | Australian colonies at 1810. Although Britain declared more than half the continent to be part of the colony of NSW in 1788, by 1810 there were still only a few small colonial centres, around which farms clustered. Britain did not have a firm control of these areas until 1810 with the arrival of Governor Macquarie. Prior to his arrival with reinforcements, the precarious colony was in constant upheaval and the Government struggled to maintain control amidst droughts, famines, convict uprisings, bushranging, rebellion of military officers, and Aboriginal resistance. |
