🌏 The 'Wandering Albatross rears is young on Albatross Island, where it sits on its eggs til knocked down by the sealers for the sake of its feathers' which were 'sold for about 9d a pound'. A single bird could yield about a pound of feathers and nearly 1,000 Albotrosses were said to have been killed on this island in 1831, with some of the birds 'stunned, plucked, and cruelly left to linger'.
