Layer Id 1262 Name Vagrancy Arrests, NSW: 1862-1880
Description

This map is part of a larger project which examines the mobility of people prosecuted as vagrants in colonial New Australia (NSW, Victoria and Tasmania) between c. 1860 and 1900. This map layer documents clusters of prosecutions in urban and rural areas. Police Gazettes were published in each colony from c. 1860. This map is derived from prosecution data collated from two decades of the NSW Police Gazette to show the clusters of prosecutions around towns with police lockups and gaols, as well as in urban areas of Sydney during that period.
