Description
This recording was made when Catherine and Madeleine Scanlon arrived in Limol after dark, after a brief speech by Tonny. The Limol children (accompanied by Dukes (Dugal) Karea [DDK] on guitar) performed this song in front of the language house, with dancing (which it was too dark to get a good recording of)

Wagiba Geser [WGG] offered to record a song, and Wendy Frank [WFF] made the recording. In the recording, Wagiba first talks about the song and then sings it. This song would be sung as small children bounce on a tree branch and then jump into the water, and (many of) the words are not real Ende.

In this recording, Dukes (Dugal) Karea [DDK] and Megiz Dareda [MMD] tell stories to their young children in their house. They tell several stories, interact with the children in various ways, and talk about other topics, for example commenting on the recording process. Catherine Scanlon [CAS] set up the recorder but was not present during the recording. The second part of the recording has been transcribed and translated. The first part is not yet being archived because I need to check the content with the speakers. The currently archived recording has been trimmed, but the audio has not been moved so that it remains synced up with the time stamps in the transcript. That is, the sound starts at 715 seconds.

This was an early attempt at recording conversation. Headworn mics were used to attempt to get higher quality audio, and the conversation feels somewhat staged. The recording was made at Jugu (Mado) Karea's house in the evening as dinner was being prepared. Jugu (Mado) Karea [JMK], Wainu Kaya [WKK], and Gladys Mado [GMJ] talk about what they did that day. Other people. Including children, are present, and the researcher (Catherine Scanlon [CAS]) was present throughout the recording as well. There are two recordings for this event because the microphones had to be adjusted.

On the way to the yam garden, Wagiba Geser [WGG], Wainu Kaya [WKK], Uba Warama [UUW] (Wagiba's brother's daughter), and Ibetty Kenny [IIK] constructed a railing for Madeleine and Catherine Scanlon to use for balance going across a log across a creek. Catherine recorded this conversation during that process, with some people on the bridge/log and others off cutting small (ie thin, not so short) trees. Some thin logs were used for posts and another long one was tied across them as a handrail.
