Layer Id	170	Name	19th Century Australian Bushfire Reporting
Description	This dataset represents places associated with 19th century Australian bushfires; whether they are directly affected or only proximate to the event. Placenames have been harvested from over 5000 19th century Australian newspaper articles. Placenames in each article that occur within a 200 character count of the word 'bushfire' have been extracted and geo-located using the GHAP. This character proximity yields a strong, if unqualified, relationship between place and disaster.	Subject Keywords	bushfires, newspaper reporting, natural disaster, bushfire, climate, environment
Type	Event	Warning	Placenames may be incorrectly spelled due to the quality of source material. Geographic coordinates have been computationally generated and may be imprecise. Recorded dates correspond to date of publication and not necessarily to the date on which a bushfire occurred. The author recommends verifying the authority of individual entries by referring to the article URL. This dataset represents only a portion of identified locations that were omitted based on geographic ambiguity.
