description NSW Railway station history. Translated from the on-line database https://www.nswrail.net/ created by Rolfe Bozier. The website is no longer maintained and has not been updated since 2011. The creator is not contactable but the website states "the data is freely available upon request." Original data is believed to have been sourced from NSW official records, most likely the Railway Gazette. This version only contains railway stations in regional NSW. Sydney suburban lines will be included in a later version and Newcastle and Hunter Valley coal lines separately. Note: the original data contains dates to the nearest year, month or day. As the gazetteer does not support month accuracy these records have been added to the database as the 1st of that month rather than lose accuracy.

description

AusCinema is based on information about the location of film exhibition in Australia in the period from 1948 to 1971. It uses information from the Annual Reports of Film Weekly, Australia’s national trade publication from its 1948/49 edition until it ceased publication in 1971. Each year, Film Weekly published a comprehensive list of screening venues, along with seating capacity and operator.

This is an important time of transition in film exhibition. At the end of WW2, the cinema was a dominant form of leisure and entertainment. Following this a number of factors such as suburbanisation, the baby boom, the introduction of television and the expansion of alternative leisure activities caused radical readjustments in cinema exhibition.

Date coverage: 1948 - 1971
Location: Australia
